Rather, the world of microorganisms plays a central role. The term &#8220;microbiome&#8221; refers to the entirety of all bacteria and other microorganisms living in an aquatic system. These microorganisms form highly complex communities that are in constant exchange with each other and their environment. They control central processes such as nutrient cycles, the degradation of organic substances, and the biological stability of the system. The composition and activity of the microbiome therefore provide a sensitive and meaningful insight into the ecological state of a water system. or &#8220;bad&#8221; bacteria. The interaction of the entire community is decisive. In a stable system, different groups of bacteria work together, degrading organic matter, converting nutrients, and handling many processes that take place in the background.  <\/p>\n<p>Classic water values such as pH, nitrite, or nitrate only show what is present in the water. The microbiome, on the other hand, shows who is behind it: Which bacteria dominate? How diverse is the community? Are there signs that certain groups are gaining the upper hand or that important groups are missing?   <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1810\" data-end=\"2245\">A balanced microbiome is flexible and can buffer peak loads. A one-sided microbiome, on the other hand, reacts sensitively to changes such as feeding, stocking, water changes, or the use of medication.
