With modern molecular biological methods, bacterial communities can now be examined much more precisely than just a few years ago. At the same time, knowledge is growing about the role microorganisms play in water quality, nutrient cycles, biofilms, and the stability of aquatic systems.

It is precisely these developments that we want to address on our “Panta Germ News” page.

 

Current research put into perspective

Here, we present interesting scientific publications, new research results, and relevant developments concerning the aquatic microbiome. This is not just about summarizing study results. Much more important is the question of what these findings can mean for practical application. What was investigated? Which results are particularly interesting? And what conclusions can be drawn for aquariums, aquaculture, pond systems, or other aquatic systems? Thematically, we deal with bacterial communities in water and biofilms, changes in the microbiome, microbial stability, conspicuous bacterial groups, and new methods for investigating aquatic systems, among other things.

Not every result from a scientific study can be directly transferred to every aquatic system. However, research provides important clues as to how complex the microbial processes in water and biofilms actually are. With our articles, we want to take interesting findings from science, put them into an understandable context, and show what significance they can have for daily practice. Because much of what determines the stability of an aquatic system remains invisible to the naked eye. With Panta Germ, we make a part of it visible.
